Position Summary

 

Supervise the CNC programming and Tool Design department and all related activities. Be the primary technical interface with the customers and suppliers for machining, CMM and tool design processes. Overall responsibility for technical accuracy and efficiency of all CNC programs including CMM programs and tool design to ensure that these programs/designs are available for use to meet production needs. Will participate in evaluating new equipment and make recommendations for their selection. Responsible for the technical aspects of the Tool Grinding & Preset department as well.   

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises CNC Programming & Tool Design activities in the Winnipeg Plant. This includes the task assignment, direction, and guidance of all subordinates, review of their work accuracy and adequacy, and the settling of workload priorities to achieve assigned project goals.
  • Provides technical support to the Tool Grinding and Preset Dept.
  • Leads activities for the research, development and definition of all cutting tools at the Winnipeg Plant.
  • Liaises with operations to establish priorities for the CNC programming and tool design requirements.
  • Establishes training requirements for the CNC programmers and Tool Designers for the effective use of hardware and software systems at Magellan.
  • Provides technical support to Operations, Engineering, Facilities, and Estimating to support current and future manufacturing. Also provides technical support to Facilities Engineering in the evaluation and commissioning of all CNC equipment.
  • Prepares department schedules and workloads for the purpose of establishing departmental budgets and capacity. This includes preparation of short and long term staffing needs, as well as termination and hiring interviews.
  • Leads the Continuous Improvement activities related to CNC programming, Tool Design.

 

Position Requirements

  • Strong background in Tool Design, machining (turning and milling) and cutting tool technology.
  • Completion of a Mechanical or Manufacturing Technology Diploma and a minimum of 10 years in a related manufacturing field with at least 6 years in CNC Programming.
  • Demonstrated ability using CAD/CAM systems related to design and NC machining.
  • Related work experience in a manufacturing environment will be considered an asset.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 6S will be considered an asset.
