Position Summary
Magellan Aerospace has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time permanent Production Controller position at our manufacturing hub in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Production Controller monitors the execution stage of the production plan. They control the shop floor prioritization from the release fence through to completion of the shop order. They work closely with manufacturing, operations, supervision and stores personnel, Material Planners, and Master Schedulers to identify and mitigate bottleneck resources and to ensure the effective use of resources. By providing up-to-date shop order priorities to the work centers, the Production Controller helps minimize WIP inventory and supports on-time completion of components and customer deliverables. To avoid delays due to MRB activities, the Production Controller works with the manufacturing engineers to amend and split shop orders as required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Establish shop order priorities to the work centers in the assigned area (using MES ShopVue) to ensure that the daily work center schedules are scheduled to achieve planned shop order completion dates.
- Track the execution of daily work center schedules and liaise and work with shop floor supervisors, stores personnel, ME team, inspectors, etc. to ensure that the work center cycle time metric is achieved. Advise manufacturing management when a build-up of shop orders at a resource puts any schedules at risk.
- Work closely with shop floor supervisors and manufacturing management to ensure that work centers follow the priorities on the dispatch lists from the top down. Develop a pull partnership with operations personnel.
- Liaise with the ME team to avoid delays due to MRB activity and ensure the timely addition of amendments to shop order cards (e.g. add rework or DIR operations) and the timely splitting of shop order quantities off the original card.
- Communicate irresolvable delays on shop orders to the Material Planner for scheduled due date adjustment. Only Material Planners can change shop order due dates.
- Work with Stores personnel to correct any issues with pick lists, trace identifiers, quantities, etc.
- Attend stand-up and production meetings to address bottleneck areas and utilize the information discussed and decisions as necessary.
- Update visual management boards on the shop floor as required.
- Update and distribute the receiving inspection hotlist.
- Support systems enhancement and migration activities to implement new and better solutions in the MRP/ERP systems, ShopVue, etc.
Position Requirements
- Grade XII combined with ME4 years equivalent experience or related post-secondary education with 2 years’ experience.
- Completion of or enrollment in APICS/CPIM will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated capability with MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
