Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time permanent Occupational Health and Safety Specialist at our Winnipeg Plant.

 

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Occupational Health & Safety, the Occupational Health & Safety Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and Magellan’s safety management systems. This position directly contributes to reducing workplace injuries and illnesses through proactive safety programs, training, audits, and emergency preparedness.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Conduct safety orientations for employees, visitors, and contractors
  • Facilitate incident investigations, reporting, corrective action follow-up, and liaison with regulatory authorities
  • Maintain injury and illness statistics and safety performance metrics
  • Identify, develop, and deliver on-site health & safety training, including respirator training, overhead crane, powered mobile equipment, forklift, and WHMIS
  • Develop and support fire prevention and emergency management plans
  • Create and implement Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Work Procedures
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team and act as Laser Safety Officer
  • Monitor and audit compliance with provincial OHS legislation, fire codes, and regulations
  • Conduct safety audits and workplace hazard monitoring (chemical, physical, noise, ergonomic hazards)
  • Manage medical surveillance programs, including lung function and audiometric testing
  • Ensure full compliance with WHMIS, including training, SDS management, respirator programs, and inventories
  • Manage and coordinate the Safety & Health Committee
  • Support Environmental Management and Disability Management initiatives
  • Coordinate hazardous waste handling and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Implement corporate and divisional safety policies and initiatives
  • Collaborate with union representatives and cross-functional teams (engineering, production, maintenance) to meet safety objectives
  • Identify and track safety-related issues and communicate findings to senior management

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Safety & Health, Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant occupational health & safety experience
  • Experience in manufacturing environment
  • Experience in working in unionized 
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
