Position Summary
The Company has a requirement for NDT (LPI) inspectors. To address this requirement, we are posting for LPI inspection positions for those employees who are currently inspectors or for other employees who meet some basic requirements, or for individuals who already have some experience in the NDT (LPI) process and are interested in this classification. Please see the accompanying training program requirements on Page 2 to be successful. You will be returned to your original classification and pay at the time of award if you do not achieve certification.
Note: Completion of this program or approved equivalent is a requirement for obtaining LPI Inspector Certification.
Essential Responsibilities
Performs surface flaw inspection using liquid penetrant inspection techniques. Performs inspection, evaluates results, and provides accept/reject disposition in accordance with customer requirements. Also responsible for conducting periodic liquid penetrant process control testing to ensure process is compliant to requirements. Certification in accordance with applicable standards is required. Certification levels are; NDT trainee, Level 2, and Level 3 when warranted. Will assist in the inspection classification when required and qualified, but this will not be exercised when any Inspector is on displacement. Must be able to read specifications and drawings and use measuring equipment and maintains records, and documentation as required. Must be certified to a minimum Level 2 (NAS410) as defined in PCP37.300 to perform LPI.
Position Requirements
- Must have a minimum of 10 years manufacturing or inspection experience.
- Meets the visual acuity requirements specified in QSP 12.0.
- Demonstrated basic Mathematics, English and Computer skills.
- Able to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Able to measure parts using vernier calipers, micrometer, dial bore gauges, height gauge and surface finish comparator.
- Able to conduct visual examination of parts for workmanship against written standards.
- Familiarity with or certification in one of the following manufacturing processes: machining, sheet metal forming, chemical processing, thermal processing, welding, electrical wiring, electrical soldering, hydraulic rigging and composite fabrication.

LPI Inspector Training Program Requirements
Magellan needs employees to meet a set of basic skills needed to be successful in completing the full training program to become a certified Level 2 NDT (LPI) Inspector, recognized by industry and outside certification agencies, such as NADCAP.
The skills required will be determined through a pre-screening process 1) a pre-interview for suitability and 2) mathematical aptitude exam. If awarded, a training plan will be developed and implemented to progress to full Level 2 NDI Certification. The applicant(s) will be moved to the NDT (LPI) Inspector class as a trainee, with a training premium as per the CBA. The training program is not a short term effort, will require study and applied effort. Travel will be required by air within Canada to attend a two week focused course and each level of training and certification will require successful completion of qualified examinations. Training will take place during business hours, and all costs associated with the training, travel and accommodations will be Magellan’s responsibility. The training plan will consist, at the minimum, the following mandatory prerequisites over 18-24 months of time.
- Successful completion of an online mathematical exam by an outside agency (once in the training program)
- Successful completion of an online Materials & Manufacturing Processes (EMC) course
- Successful completion of OJT required minimum hours verified by log book
- Successful completion of 80 hour LPI Level 1 & 2 Training course attended at an outside qualifying agency (MAW funds initial course expenses only)
- 700 – 2000 hours of OJT under an qualified Level 2 trainer
- Successful completion of Magellan certification exams
- Subjected to recurrent NADCAP NDT audits for compliant practical demonstrations.
- Additional dimensional inspector training will be applied at some point during this training cycle. This could be up to 8 additional weeks of time. This will not be a requirement if the applicants previously held #7 Inspector or #4 Digital Inspector.
Completion of the above qualifies the candidate to attain LPI Inspector Certification and stamp and given a full time position with the Premium once achieved Level 2 status. The training candidate will be returned to their original classification and pay prior to entering the training program if not successful in any steps of the process, up to and including the final qualification exams, and reasonable retesting opportunities as determined by Magellan and outside certification agencies.
