Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time permanent Manager, Occupational Health and Safety at our plant in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

 

The Manager, Occupational Health and Safety serves as the division’s management representative for Health & Safety, providing guidance, driving programs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role leads the Emergency Response Team, directs Health & Safety staff, supports training and environmental operations, and contributes to divisional strategic planning and continuous improvement of the Health & Safety management system.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements and administers a health, safety & disability management program for Magellan Aerospace Winnipeg.
  • Ensure internal Health & Safety KPI’s, such as lost time injury rates and near-miss occurrences, are in place and reviewed to monitor and measure overall performance. 
  • Identify and implement corrective actions required to overcome potential deficiencies.
  • Have knowledge of ISO 45001 and assess the overall effectiveness of the company’s Health & Safety management system.  Communicate effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement.  Report outcomes to Senior Management.
  • Develops and implements companywide fire and emergency management plans. Ensures plans are appropriately communicated and necessary support training plans are implemented. 
  • Function as Laser Safety Officer and manages the laser safety program for company processes involving laser processes.
  • Maintains Company Safety Management System in Compliance with Safe Work Certified Requirements, through Made safe.
  • Maintain and monitor company’s internal, external, and corporates safety audits.
  • Monitors and audits Company compliance with applicable safety, health and fire legislation/regulations and recommends appropriate actions to ensure compliance.

 

Position Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Health & Safety management.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety processes, procedures, methodologies, and applicable legislation/regulations, including fire codes.
  • Experience with emergency response procedures, first aid, and hazard recognition, with the ability to recommend corrective measures.
  • Experience developing and delivering Health & Safety training programs.
  • Familiarity with investigative methods, including root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Previous experience in aerospace manufacturing and/or a unionized workplace is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and within a team environment.
