Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time permanent Employee & Labour Relations Specialist at our manufacturing hub in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, with Director oversight, the Employee/Labor Relations (ELR) Specialist is responsible for advice and counsel in employee and labor relations matters and providing strategic and operational labor relations advice to all levels of management.

 

The ELR Specialist is responsible for the consistent interpretation and application of company policies, collective agreements, as well as coordination and administration of labor relations practices, initiatives, and activities.

 

The ELR Specialist is further responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of employee and labor relations practices and initiatives that enhance the efficient and effective delivery of services within, while maintaining compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coaching and counselling Managers and Supervisors on performance management, attendance management, conflict management and other workplace issues; recommends appropriate actions in accordance with policy, guidelines and applicable laws.
  • Provides labor relations advice, guidance, support, and direction where applicable or appropriate, through effective partner consultation and engagement with all levels of management.
  • Prepares and presents company positions in the grievance and arbitration process
  • Key member of the Company Union Contract Negotiating Committee(s)
  • Manages Non Standard / Flexible Work Arrangements / Requests
  • Develops and implements initiatives in support of Human Rights at Magellan including policy development, Human Rights investigations and carrying out and monitoring plans
  • Leads and coordinates activities related to Magellan’s Joint Human Rights Committee (Unifor)
  • Remains current on trends, best practices, regulatory changes in human resources, employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to the plant teams.
  • Other duties as required to accomplish overall Human Resources department goals and objectives.


Position Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources
  • Interest in pursuing accreditation, or continuing education courses to support relevant job duties
  • A minimum of 3 years of ELR experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial/labour relations, communications & applicable HR legislation is essential.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times/deal with personal/sensitive matters of a highly private nature.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective time management and negotiation skills
