Position Summary:
Magellan Aerospace has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time permanent Special Process/ Quality Systems Internal Audit Lead at our division Magellan Aerospace Processing, West Babylon, New York 11704.
Shift Time: Monday - Friday: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Compensation Range (Based on qualifications): $75,000 - $95,000.
Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Develop, maintain, and execute the site internal audit program for Nadcap special processes, AS9100, ISO 14001, customer approvals, and corporate compliance requirements.
- Create and maintain a risk-based annual audit schedule covering Chemical Processing, NDT, Shot Peen, Coatings, Lab, Maintenance, Quality, Environmental, Planning, Purchasing, Shipping/Receiving, and support functions.
- Lead process-based audits using live shop-floor observation, job audits, operator interviews, procedure verification, traveler review, and objective evidence review.
- Verify that customer and specification requirements are accurately flowed down into procedures, travelers, inspection records, lab controls, periodic testing, and operator instructions.
- Build and maintain a trained internal auditor pool using cross-functional team of technical leads, functional leads, Quality personnel, Continuous Improvement personnel, and process owners.
- Assign auditors based on independence, competence, process knowledge, and risk.
- Maintain auditor training, competency, qualification, and refresher records.
- Support external audits by Nadcap/PRI, AS9100 registrar, ISO 14001 registrar, customers, regulatory bodies, and corporate audit teams.
- Document internal audit findings clearly, issue CARs/NCRs, and ensure timely containment, root cause analysis, corrective action, and effectiveness verification.
- Verify corrective actions through objective evidence, including live job audits, record reviews, operator interviews, and process-control checks.
- Track audit findings to closure and escalate overdue, repeat, systemic, or product-impact issues to leadership.
- Monitor audit program KPIs, including audit completion, overdue findings, repeat findings, escape findings, effectiveness verification, and audit readiness.
- Support Management Review with audit trends, systemic risks, compliance health, and improvement recommendations.
- Promote a culture of compliance, integrity, audit readiness, and process discipline across the shop floor and support functions.
- Identify opportunities to improve procedures, forms, checklists, training, process controls, and compliance systems.
- Maintain strong engagement with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Lab, Maintenance, Environmental, and Customer Quality teams to prevent repeat audit findings.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical diploma in engineering, quality, manufacturing, environmental, or related technical discipline; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, special processes, quality systems, process control, internal auditing, or compliance.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, Nadcap, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, customer specifications, and internal audit principles.
- Experience conducting process audits, job audits, layered audits, or special-process audits in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret procedures, specifications, travelers, test records, inspection records, and corrective action documentation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage shop-floor employees, supervisors, managers, and external auditors.
- Strong follow-up discipline and ability to drive closure of corrective actions across functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AS9100 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor training.
- Nadcap audit experience in Chemical Processing, NDT, Coatings, Shot Peen, or related special processes.
- ISO 14001 Internal Auditor training.
- ISO 19011 audit-methodology training.
- ASQ CQA, CQE, CQT, or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with RCCA, 5-Why, fishbone, mistake-proofing, corrective action effectiveness verification, and Management Review.
