Position Summary:
Magellan Aerospace, Processing New York has an exciting new opportunity for an Operations Manager. The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the overall operational performance of metal surface treatment, non-destructive testing (NDT), and shot peening operations, ensuring the consistent achievement of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) objectives within budgeted targets. The successful incumbent will provide leadership across Operations and Supply Chain, while also overseeing Facility Maintenance and Environmental, Health &Safety (EHS) to ensure full compliance with aerospace and defense regulatory requirements, including Nadcap, AS9100, and applicable environmental standards. They will also play a critical role in driving operational excellence, process capability, and customer satisfaction in a highly regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.
Reports directly to: Division Manager
The salary range for this position is: $100,000 - $130,000.
Shift: Monday–Friday Regular day shift 7 AM- 3:30 AM
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement plans to efficiently utilize materials, labor, and equipment to meet customer delivery, quality, and cost expectations in metal surface treatment, NDT, and shot peening operations
- Lead daily operations to ensure compliance with aerospace customer specifications, Nadcap requirements, and internal process controls
- Suggest, lead, and direct improvements to machinery, chemical processing lines, NDT and shot peening equipment, production systems, and methods of work to achieve divisional goals
- Manage and optimize supply chain activities, including procurement of coatings, chemicals and consumables, production planning, demand management, master scheduling, shipping/receiving, and warehousing
- Identify and implement best-in-class technologies, automation, and infrastructure appropriate for aerospace special processes and business scale
- Establish and maintain appropriate inventory targets for raw materials, chemicals, WIP, and finished goods while ensuring compliance with shelf-life and regulatory requirements
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement aligned with Lean/6S principles
- Plan and manage operational plans and departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with financial targets and business strategy
- Research, justify, and recommend capital investment plans (equipment, processing lines, automation) to improve capacity, capability, efficiency, and profitability
- Drive daily schedule execution and maximize utilization of critical assets, identifying and resolving bottlenecks
- Establish, monitor, and drive performance through KPIs (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Inventory), ensuring actions are taken to achieve targets
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and customer requirements, including Nadcap, AS9100, ISO14001, OSHA, ITAR, and internal policies and procedures
- Ensure supply chain synchronization and adherence to production plans, minimizing disruptions and delays
- Oversee equipment reliability and facility maintenance programs, including preventive and corrective maintenance for processing lines, paint shop, NDT, and shot peening equipment
- Provide strong leadership, communication, and direction to Operations and Supply Chain teams to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Inventory objectives
- Proactively identify operational risks and constraints (capacity, compliance, supply chain), develop mitigation plans, and escalate issues as needed
- Partner with external stakeholders, EHS, Quality, and Finance teams to identify energy-saving, waste reduction, and sustainability initiatives, including support for grants and funding opportunities
- Drive audit readiness and successful outcomes for internal, customer, and Nadcap audits
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management
- Minimum 5–8 years of progressive operations leadership experience in Metal surface treatment, chemical processing, Aerospace special processes (Nadcap environment preferred), NDT and/or shot peening operations strongly preferred
- Proven track record maintaining Nadcap merit and AS9100 certification with zero major findings in the last 3 audits.
- Strong knowledge of: Aerospace metal finishing processes (plating, anodizing, passivation, coatings), NDT methods (FPI, MPI, etc.), Shot peening processes and controls
- Deep understanding of: Nadcap requirements, AS9100 & ISO 14001standards, and OSHA and environmental regulations (EPA, RCRA)
- Experience with ERP/MRP and MES systems, Project Management, Microsoft Office
- Proven leadership in high-mix, high-pace regulated manufacturing environments.
- Strong change management and problem-solving skills
- Experience with: Lean Manufacturing, 6S, and Continuous Improvement development and performance management (SQDC)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience with labor relations and team development
- Working knowledge and advanced training in Environmental, Health &Safety Management, Quality Management System, Lean manufacturing concepts and techniques with significant exposure to Visual Management, budgeting and cost management, and metric/KPI development.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is an asset
- Strong analytical and financial acumen (budgeting, cost control)
- Ability to effectively interface with: Customers, Auditors, and Regulatory Agencies
- Should be able to lift 25lbs multiple times during the work shift and comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time in a shop floor /industrial environment with exposure to Chemicals, Noise, Variable temperatures
