Position Summary
The Director of Government Relations is responsible for developing and executing strategies to engage with government officials, policymakers, and advocacy groups. The incumbent is responsible for developing and executing a capture plan taking into account Magellan’s existing capabilities, capacity and future expansion opportunities to support government and defence-based contracts for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, Castings, Machining and Engineering. This role involves monitoring governmental activities, acting swiftly in response to change in policies and defense spending, legislative developments, and ensuring the organization's voice is heard in policymaking arenas. The Director is expected to build coalitions, foster positive relationships, and support the company's business units by engaging with Canadian government agencies, business associations, and aerospace/defense companies.
Compensation: $170k to $200k

Essential Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing and executing a capture plan taking into account Magellan’s existing capabilities, capacity and future expansion opportunities for government and defense-based contracts
- Lead large cross functional teams to develop, interpret and prioritize large contracts for Government including Aerospace supplier bid packages resulting in a fully compliant bid
- Interpreting & reading engineering drawings to then liaise with internal engineering/estimating teams to ensure customer requirements are fully understood
- Working with internal departments to ensure a cohesive approach to governmental engagement. Ability to monitor governmental activities and act swiftly in response to legislative developments.
- Undertake intelligence gathering on customers & competitors within the aerospace market with a view to understand new opportunities for company growth
- Build a database of potential new customers & industry-wide contacts
- Using information gained through market analysis evaluate & prioritize those customers where opportunities appear to exist
- Introduce Magellan divisional manufacturing capabilities, including on-site visits & introduction of key staff & their roles
- Promote the Magellan Aerospace organization through the attendance at trade shows, conferences and industry/government associations
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Marketing or other relevant field.
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience reviewing, monitoring and/or negotiating contracts in the aerospace industry. Must understand the defense market.
- Demonstrated, sustained ability and reputation of winning complex contract awards for government work with values routinely reaching over $10M
- Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Knowledge of contract law, practices, regulations, policies and techniques
- Knowledge of contracts, i.e., contract development language, terms, conditions, etc.
- Knowledge of negotiation techniques
- Establish and maintain working relationships with peers, employees, and customers
- Skilled in enforcing contractual obligations
- Skilled in resolving complex, contractual issues
- Effective oral and/or written communication, in accurately and impartially summarizing and evaluating factors related to contracts
- Skilled in interpreting policies and procedures
- Skilled in writing specific terms of conditions for contracts
- Excellent verbal and communication skills, as well as the ability to accentuate positive
- Ability to work well inside the organization at all levels
- Ability to relate well with customers and vendors at all levels within their organizations
