Position Summary

 

Magellan Aerospace, Mississauga has a great opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer – Repair and Overhaul. The purpose of this position is to provide engineering support for gas turbine engines repair and overhaul activities. Lead engine components repair development projects. Perform Continuing Airworthiness activities required to support aero engines maintenance, repair and overhaul. Carry out engineering studies as necessary. Secondary duties to include hazard assessment and determination of gas turbine engine components probability of in-service failure.

 

Compensation: $85,000 - $100,000

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Carry out investigations on engines or parts that have been returned for repair or overhaul to determine the reasons for defects and recommend remedial action using root cause analysis
  • Issue engineering instructions to define engine specific R&O work scopes
  • Liaise with the Material Control Board. Perform engine parts recertification, if required
  • Review Overhaul and Inspection Reports directed to Engineering by R&O planners to determine the ultimate disposition of deviating part
  • Must be able to make decisions using basic engineering principles and knowledge of the part’s function in the engine to assess whether a part is acceptable as is, requires a rework of some form or must be scrapped as being beyond usable or economical recovery
  • Develop new or modify existing repair schemes to fix unserviceable gas turbine engine components
  • Must be able to analyze data to establish trending patterns and make a decision for use or recovery of parts
  • Support Continuing Airworthiness activities including technical publications review
  • May need to interpret the R&O manual requirements for inspection, planning or engine assembly personnel

 

Position Requirements

Required:

  • 5 years relevant Mechanical Engineering experience in aeronautical product development, manufacturing or R&O
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering
  • Eligible to meet requirements for the Controlled Goods Program
  • Knowledge of gas turbine repair processes
  • Knowledge of TC and/or TAA Airworthiness system

Preferred:

  • Knowledge/experience of aero gas turbines, especially F404 engine
  • Knowledge of working materials and metallurgy of gas turbines and components
  • Knowledge/experience of manufacturing processes such as machining, plating, plasma spray, welding or brazing
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization: from shop operators to Executives
