Position Summary

 

Magellan Aerospace, Middletown has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Buyer. The successful incumbent will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing the procurement of goods and services to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery in alignment with company objectives.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Source, evaluate, and select suppliers that meet stringent aerospace quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Support supplier qualification and approval process.
  • Manage supplier performance through regular reviews, audits, and corrective action plans. Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards, government regulations, ITAR, and company policies.
  • Purchases commodities which are generally interrelated; of limited technicality, complexity or expense. Place contracts for technically complex products in accordance with a variety of government and other regulations and procedures.
  • Reviews purchase requisitions and determines urgency of items, ensuring required specifications are in compliance.
  • Analyzes and compares quotations received from suppliers for price, terms, transport cost, lot size and lead times.
  • Makes necessary arrangements ensuring receipt of acceptance documentation to meet material schedule and expedite in critical situations as required.
  • Performs liaison functions, as required between Magellan Aerospace, Middletown, Inc. and supplier to ensure that Magellan Aerospace, Middletown, Inc.’s best interests are protected and the supplier receives consideration in accordance with accepted business practices.
  • Coordinates with other departments on technical and quality problems, bringing to their attention new products, processes and tools, in order to make or design a better product.
  • Prepares documentation required for management approval of purchase orders exceeding delegation of authority, including price analysis.
  • Maintains accurate purchase orders, forecasts, and records in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to technical specifications.
  • Represents purchasing department in the absence of the Materials Manager.
  • Assists in giving purchasing guidance to other buyers when necessary.

 

 

Position Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in business management or administration
  • 5-10 years of related experience 
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, etc.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
