Position Summary

 

Magellan Aerospace, Middletown has an exciting new opportunity for a NPI Project Manager. The purpose of this position is to ensure accountability for new program introduction from customer inquiry through product introduction. The successful incumbent will also be responsible for developing manufacturing/inspection processes for new products and works to improve current processes of existing products. After contract award, this position acts as program management through initial production to allow for handoff of the production plan or through completion for smaller programs.

 

Essential Responsibilities 

 

  • This position works closely with Business Development and customers to develop a competitive bid including determining manufacturing and quality processes, supplier selection, quoting material and tooling, estimating manufacturing time, and internal bid administration to ensure high quality and timely quotes. 
  • Develop improved technical relationships with suppliers and develop improved selection of supplier base by matching work package to supplier capabilities.
  • Manage the cost estimation process with the customer and internal teams including ensuring on time delivery of customer data, internal design/manufacturing/quality engineering activities, contract review, external quotes for material and tooling, and the risk registry.
  • Manage the new program introduction from award through initial production – typically FAI for large programs or through completion for smaller programs.
  • Working with Business Development, identify new processes and capabilities.
  • Lead and/or support process improvement and research and development projects, create plans with designers and other engineers, estimating costs, build prototypes and test structures, troubleshoot problems, and create strategies to optimize operations.

 

Position Requirements 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in engineering or four years related experience. 
  • Knowledgeable in aircraft structural integrity, manufacturing techniques
  • Experience with exhaust components, and the function of product components.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Good communication skills
