Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Haverhill is a world-class manufacturer of precision machined aerospace components. We have an exciting opportunity for Sr. Buyer. The primary responsibility of a Sr. Buyer, is to purchase goods and service for the company in an efficient and economical manner following established policies and procedures in processing purchase orders.  Assist in the planning and direction of the work activities of other buyers in the procurement group.  Ensure that requisitioned materials are sourced with suppliers that meet our performance standards at competitive prices.  Purchase selected major commodities representing high dollar value and/or critical impact on manufacturing operations.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $96,000

Essential Responsibilities

  • Help to develop and implement strategies to achieve performance objectives relating to quality, cost, and materials availability.
  • Negotiate price and supply terms for selected major commodities, issue purchase orders, and follow-up to ensure timely deliveries. Keeps accurate records, including price histories and any problems in doing business with particular vendors.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the purchasing department.
  • Develop strong partnerships with key suppliers.  Develop and implement methods for improving supplier performance and staff efficiency with the department Director, to include the implementation and maintenance of supplier scorecards.
  • Provides reports and status or raw material supply and delivery concerns to planning and operations.  Provides reports for both site level and corporate level as required.
  • Help to manage inventory levels by ensuring timely supply of raw materials. Works closely with managers scheduling production to maintain a “just-in-time” level of inventory
  • Submits monthly corporate required supply chain reports in addition to other required reports in a timely manner.
  • Review and sign-off purchase order packages that exceed individual Buyer delegation.
  • Assist in the resolution of supply problems and supervise the follow-up and expediting of supplier deliveries.
  • Prepare solicitations for quotations for direct materials and services.  Source new vendors on the basis of price, capability, and performance, following departmental and corporate guidelines.
  • Plan material input based on customer and manufacturing needs. Keeps planning personnel informed on raw material status.
  • Participate with/in place of the department Director as a member of the corporate procurement council, consisting of purchasing professionals from the different Magellan divisions to assist in the development and strategy/best practices as corporate headquarters plays a greater role in leveraging our suppliers.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Professional certification is a plus. CPIM and CSCP or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in Procurement or Supply Chain.
  • Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Background in the aircraft and/or aerospace industry desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of personal computers and ERP/MS Office software.
