Position Overview
The Product Development Technician supports metallurgical development of new products, process optimization, and technical troubleshooting within the sand‑casting foundry. This role collaborates closely with dimensional product development, process engineering, quality control, and production teams to ensure castings meet metallurgical requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design gating systems for aluminum and magnesium castings and perform solidification modeling.
- Maintain project milestones and customer communications.
- Support tooling design and revisions in collaboration with tooling technicians and pattern suppliers.
- Conduct process trials for new or modified castings, documenting results and tracking improvements.
- Review dimensional inspections with tooling technicians.
- Analyze casting defects and assist in root‑cause investigations.
- Maintain process documentation including work instructions
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to scrap and re-work reduction.
Education Requirements:
- College or university diploma/ degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 2 years’ experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or foundry operations would be an asset
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Experience in aluminum and magnesium sand castings
- Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
- Proficiency with MS Office or equivalent
- Proficiency with MS Project
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills
- Works independently with minimal supervision
- Maintains professionalism, accountability, and integrity
- Comfortable in both office and plant‑floor environments
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting
Security Requirements:
- We conduct a criminal Record Check on all new hires
- We conduct a Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) Check on all new hires; must be able to give 3 references to help verify your identity
Work Conditions:
- Standard hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime as required.
- Potential for future afternoon‑shift coverage based on business needs.
- Must have the ability to travel to suppliers and customers.
- CSA‑approved footwear, safety glasses, ear protection, and other PPE required.
