Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and clean the industrial wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), sewage treatment plant (STP) and water treatment plant (WTP).
  • Monitor water treatment (WT) processes and conduct sampling to ensure regulatory compliance and process efficiency.

  • Calibrate environmental monitoring instruments and maintain precise documentation and records.
  • Participate as an active member of the HAZMAT team, including training and emergency response activities.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of WWTP, STP, WT areas, and the Emergency Response Room.
  • Serve as a backup for solid waste management activities, including the collection, sorting, and recycling of materials.
  • Operate forklift and dump truck as needed to assist with environmental operations.
  • Collect effluent samples in accordance with established protocols set by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks(MECP), and prepare them for submission to an external laboratory.
  • Execute waste reduction initiatives within the plant, including waste audits and optimization efforts.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Environmental Technician studies, or an equivalent program.
  • Additional certifications or training in environmental compliance or hazardous materials are considered an asset.

Certifications (Preferred or to be Obtained Upon Hire, Company Paid)

  • Certified in Level 1 and Level 2 Wastewater Treatment operations
  • HAZMAT Technician training
  • Qualified to operate forklift, overhead crane, and work in confined spaces
  • Continuing education in wastewater and water treatment

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes
  • Familiarity with STP and WWTP operations and equipment
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and sampling
  • Knowledge of 5S methodology and ability to participate in departmental initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to work with computerized process controls

Security Requirements:

  • We conduct a Criminal Record Check on all new hires
  • We conduct a Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) Check on all new hires; must be able to give 3 references to help verify your identity

Work Conditions:

  • Work performed in both plant and field environments, with exposure to water, wastewater, landfill sites, and hazardous materials
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required for daily operations and Emergency Response
  • Requires physical activity including walking, climbing, and lifting in outdoor and industrial settings
  • Regular interaction with internal departments
  • Day shift Monday to Friday 7:00am-3:30pm and overtime on occasion
