Job Title: Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) Inspector
Position Summary
Magellan Aerospace, Glendale specializes in the manufacturing of precision magnesium and aluminum sand castings. We have an exciting opportunity for a FPI NDT Inspector. Uses knowledge of parts, manufacturing processes, equipment set-up, and NDT methods to process parts for inspection following specific operating procedures. Interprets and evaluates test results.
Essential Responsibilities
- Review routers, procedures, specifications, drawings and other instructions for completeness and instructions to perform Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) operation
- Process part(s) in accordance with procedures and technical instructions to evaluate for casting discontinuities exceeding requirements specified
- Set-up, operate, calibrate, and perform Process Control Checks on NDT / FPI equipment by following established instructions and record results
- Interpret, evaluate, and report evaluation results as required and outlined
- Fill out required documentation, logs and quality records
- Clean equipment and ensures it is working properly, and clean and maintain work area FOD free and orderly condition as needed.
- May perform other NDT as qualified for and as required (visual, x-ray, pressure test)
- Maintain required job skills and knowledge of requirements (including procedures, specifications, etc.)
- Maintains a clean working area, equipment, and all documents/records to be audit ready at all times
- Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to Level I NDT Inspectors, trainees and fellow Level II NDT Inspectors
- Assist the Level III in developing specific test techniques
- Performs the above and other assigned duties in a safe, quality-focused manner. Required to follow EHS policies and wear PPE applicable to the process area, and the entire site.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve Magellan quality and delivery performance.
- Perform a variety of other duties and tasks of equal or less complexity, as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager.
Position Requirements
- Currently or previously certified to NDT Level II in Liquid Penetrant Testing in accordance with NAS-410
- Must have documented hours for Training & Experience per NAS-410 Level II Liquid penetrant:
- Minimum 32 Hrs. classroom training
- Minimum 400 Hrs. experience
- Minimum 1 year of continuous manufacturing experience as a certified Level II in Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection in the aerospace industry
- Able to read and interpret blueprint and engineering drawings and be able to document non-conformances as required
- Able to utilize measuring devices including comparators, micrometers, scales, light meters and calipers
- Successfully pass vision examination to meet NAS 410 requirements
- Ability to work on all Aluminum and Magnesium casting parts independently and provide guidance to team members on all parts and processes within the FPI Department within 3 months of hire.

- Pneumatic pressure testing
- Etch Cleaning
- X-ray Level I or II
- Good communication skills
- Excellent safety, attendance and punctuality history
- Makes decisions based on experience and available data
- Flexible in changing priorities
- Produces error free products and accurately completes paperwork
- History of working effectively with co-workers, managers, and other employees in a team environment
- Willingness to cross train in other NDT methods
- Available to work extended or flexible schedule on short notice
- Able to work under general direction with minimal supervision
