Position Summary
Magellan Aerospace, New York has an exciting new opportunity for a Conventional Milling Operator. The successful incumbent will be responsible for setting up and operating conventional milling machines to manufacture precision aerospace components while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
The salary range for this position is $25.00 to $28.00 per hour.
Essential Responsibilities
- Set up and operate conventional milling machines to machine aerospace components to engineering specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and process sheets.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, cutting tools, and machine speeds and feeds.
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other inspection equipment.
- Maintain close tolerances and dimensional accuracy on complex machined parts.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with customer and quality requirements.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and in good working condition.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments as necessary.
- Complete production documentation accurately and on time.
- Follow all company safety policies, quality procedures, and manufacturing standards.
- Work effectively with supervisors, quality personnel, engineering, and other production employees.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and maintain an organized work area.
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience operating conventional milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience machining precision metal components, preferably within the aerospace industry.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to maintain close tolerances and produce high-quality work.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience manufacturing aerospace components.
- Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards.
- Experience working in an ITAR-regulated manufacturing environment.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity required to operate machinery and inspection equipment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, coolant, and metal chips while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
